Today, I took the Path train to Jersey City to meet with my friend Tia about some freelance research work. I had never taken the Path in my adult life, and found it to be a very pleasant experience. As it turns out, New Jersey really isn't that far from New York.
I know that sounds ridiculous and probably a little elitist, but the feeling I had taking the train under the Hudson River to work in NJ was the same feeling I had when I finally overcame the psychological hurdle of crossing the East River to live in Brooklyn.
Anyway, I could meditate forever about identifying strongly with the city-proper and being offended when it's suggested that I'm from somewhere "nearby," like Jersey or Long Island. But that's another post, for another day.
What I wanted to post were some signs and things I saw as I was walking to Tia's along Newark and Jersey Avenues:
Quite simply, I kinda dug that this restaurant called itself, "It's Greek To Me." I love Greek food.
And finally, the piéce de résistance. Because I have a middle-schooler's sense of toilet humor, I really found this store's logo to be kind of awesometown, as my friend Dixie might say:
